May 2020 Blog Income Report

Income Report for May 2020

Hello! Welcome to my income report for May 2020. I’m publishing these income reports to keep myself accountable and also to hopefully show you the way. I haven’t figured it out yet, but I’m sharing what I’ve learned so far. I haven’t really seen anyone sharing these things for a mental health site, so that’s what I’m aiming to do. I’ve been thinking lately perhaps I would set up a second domain that was more for these business-type posts.

But I do have to say that for anyone living with social anxiety, or just living in the world that we are in today, I think online business is a truly viable option. Even though I’m not where I want to be, I’m consistently earning revenue each month. And, I truly don’t work more than 10 hours per week on this site, because I still have other work (and my kids to teach right now, but that’s a whole other story).

Anyhoo… here we go!

May STATS:

Note: The numbers in parentheses are from last month.

Pageviews: 29,566 (26,803)

Sessions: 23,503 (21,197)

Users: 20,598 (19,033)

Mailing List Subscribers: 2908 (2729)

Pinterest Followers: 2.3k (2.2k)

(I’m going to stop tracking Pinterest monthly views, because I really think this stat is irrelevant. All that matters is how many clickthroughs I get to my own articles)

Facebook Followers: 5193 (5136)

Twitter Followers:  3192 (3196)

Instagram Followers: 249 (239)

Tik Tok Followers: 47 (0)

Okay, so this is my new hobby! But seriously, I signed up for Tik Tok and I have really no clue what I’m doing over there but it’s a lot of fun! If you haven’t spent any time there, I suggest giving it a look.

Total Social Media Followers: 10,981 (10,771)

You know why that number above is important to me? Social anxiety is a poorly understood problem that doesn’t get talked about a lot. It’s important to me that people see it’s okay to talk about, and the bigger the following on each page, the more social proof there is that it’s okay.

Posts published: 8 (8)

I decided that for one of my regular posts each month, I will instead go back and update an older post.

SEMRUSH stats

Organic search: 1.6k (1.5k)

Backlinks: 2k (1.9k)

Organic keywords: 1850 (1800)

I REALLY want my site to start doing better on Google, so I am considering finally taking the course Stupid Simple SEO by Mike Pearson.

May BLOG INCOME REPORT:

Amazon UK: $5.07) ($2.15)

Betterhelp: $0 ($300)

ShareASale: $0

Products

Products overall: $239 ($77)

Social Anxiety Masterclass: 4 sold (0 sold)

Art Therapy-Inspired Coloring Bundle: 0 sold (1 sold)

CBT + Mindfulness Workbook Tripwire: 7 sold (10 sold)

(The interesting thing that I did this month was to raise the price of the tripwire from $7 to $12. I had no qualms about whether the product was worth this much, and feel like people might take it more seriously and do the work if I raised the price. I just didn’t want to end up with no sales. But, sales remained fairly steady. So that means this month I made 7 x 12 = $84 from the tripwire instead of the $49 I would have made. Not bad for 15 minutes of work!)

Social Skills Workbook for Social Anxiety: 3 sold (0 sold – new product)

Total income: $442.24 ($291.04)

I’m so, so glad that I re-opened my course in May and also created a new workbook. This boosted sales of my own products this month, which was desperately needed since everything else was low.

Monthly expenses:

Email (Convertkit): $49

(I’m inching my way toward 3000 subscribers, so I think it’s time to do a re-engagement sequence and then delete cold subscribers. No sense paying more than I need to right now)

: $13.60 (use  and discount code KSDISC to save 20%)

Teachable: $39

Canva: $12.82

Tailwind: $14.99

WordPress Support from iMark Interactive: $27

Total expenses: $156.41 ($114.42)

Net blog income: $285.83 ($176.62)

Thoughts about this month’s income report:

So, things are kind of hum drum around here. Product sales were up but everything else was down. I need some way to get everything working at the same time. I did finish Six Figure Blogger last month and I’m making some changes to my welcome sequence based on what I learned.

Also a note – I’ve put EBA in “pause.” I’m all the way through to the point where you set goals and organize a team. I’m already setting goals, and I don’t have a team yet, so I think I can comfortably hit pause.

Instead, I have my eyes on SEO for the rest of the year, as well as perhaps email.

Goals for June:

  • I don’t know, survive? Honestly guys, it’s been a rough little while for me personally as well as for the world as a whole. My original plan was to create a Self Confidence workbook in June to sell in July. I’m just not really sure that’s what I should be doing right now. Do you have any thoughts on this? I’d love to hear in the comments.
