July 2020 Blog Income Report

Income Report for July 2020

Welcome to my July 2020 blog income report! I will keep things relatively short this month, but if there’s anything you’d like to know just ask in the comments.

Why do I publish these reports on a mental health blog? Because I’ve always been interested in passive income and behind the scenes income reports, and I think everyone else should be too, especially if you have social anxiety.

And if you’re not interested in this, know that I’ll be back to regularly scheduled programming next week.

July STATS:

Note: The numbers in parentheses are from last month. I’m retrieving these numbers from Google Analytics, Convertkit, and my social media platforms.

Pageviews: 32,919 (30,172)

Sessions: 26,897 (23,900)

Users: 23,818 (21,080)

Organic Sessions (Google):  7,165 (6384)

Social Sessions: 14,587 (15,065)

Mailing List Subscribers: 3490 (3173)

Pinterest Followers: 2.9k (2.5k)

Facebook Followers: 5.2k (5.2k)

Facebook group members: 28 (0)

I started a brand new Facebook group for people wanting to talk about social and performance anxiety! You’re welcome to join here.

Twitter Followers:  3.2k (3.2k)

Instagram Followers: 297 (266)

Tik Tok Followers: 62 (61)

I’ve barely posted on Instagram or Tik Tok this month. When there was talk of Tik Tok being shut down in the U.S. I decided to lay low until that blew over.

Instagram I still struggle with what to post. I’m not a photographer, so my photos are really pretty bad. I was told to post pictures of myself, but well… ugh. Any suggestions on what I should post?

Total Social Media Followers: 11.2k (11.7k)

Posts published: 7 (9)

I’ve decided since I have so many posts now, that I will update two older posts each month and the rest will be new posts (I post twice per week). The posts that I update will also have updated dates so they will show up in my blog feed.

July BLOG INCOME REPORT:

Advertising

Mediavine: $280.70 ($271.35)

Pageview RPM: $10.44 ($11.14)

Affiliates

Amazon OVERALL: $58.24 ($38.64)

Note: I’m reporting everything in US Dollars.

Amazon US: $44.24 ($23.69)

Amazon CANADA: $6.59 ($10.27)

Amazon UK: $7.41 ($4.68)

Betterhelp: $0 ($450)

I’ve realized that the income from this affiliate is very inconsistent. This means that I can’t really rely on it for my base income and need to consider it more of a “bonus” each month. My stable base income needs to come from other places.

ShareASale: $0 ($0)

So, with Shareasale I have Cratejoy, Restored 316 (for my Anchored Theme), and a few other affiliates. I quite dislike their interface and find it hard to navigate, so I haven’t done much with this affiliate network.

Awin:  $0 ($5.65)

Clickbank: $0

Products

Products overall: $177 ($239)

Social Anxiety Masterclass:  0 sold (2 sold)

Side note: I ran a flash sale on my Masterclass in July but it was at the end of the month and people bought right at the end of the day. So I actually technically sold three of them this month, but they won’t count until next month.

Art Therapy-Inspired Coloring Bundle: 0 sold (0 sold)

CBT + Mindfulness Workbook Tripwire12 sold (9 sold)

Social Skills Workbook: 0 sold (3 sold)

Self Confidence Workbook: 0 sold

Yay! I made the new Self Confidence Workbook. Now, I need to create my new tripwire that combines the Social Skills Workbook + Self Confidence Workbook and have that triggered as the tripwire when people sign up for my social skills or self confidence lead magnets.

On a side note, I found a really easy way to quickly implement a new lead magnet. You can use the plugin Ad Inserter to make a global change to a category of posts. For example, once I have my self-confidence tripwire ready, I can implement it immediately across all of the posts that fall into my self-confidence categories.

Total income: $515.94 ($942.64)

So, my income is about half of what it was last month. See how it goes up and down? Ads are still a big part of what I make. I know people say you shouldn’t be relying on ads and that’s the hardest way to make money, but to that I say …. pffft.

Do you forget what it’s like in the beginning when you’re just trying to make enough money that you aren’t like a hamster on a wheel trying to do a day job (or freelance work) and blog at the same time?

Honestly, ads are super important at the beginning. And that’s why I’m setting myself a new goal of 100,000 pageviews by December 31st and to apply to Adthrive.

Monthly expenses:

Email (Convertkit): $79

: $13.60 (use  and discount code KSDISC to save 20%)

Teachable: $39

Canva: $12.82

Tailwind: $14.99

Kara Fidd Membership: $15

I signed up for Kara Fidd’s Design membership because I thought it would inspire me to make more new pins and lead magnets. (Also because the price was going up. Well played Kara. Well played).

Faith Mariah Mastermind: $50

I’ve been in this for a while, but thought I should start adding it as a regular expense. I believe it’s important to be in some sort of Mastermind after you graduate EBA. And yes, I still believe in taking EBA even after I was kicked out of the Facebook group. But that’s a story for another day. (Ask me if you’d like to know).

WordPress Support from iMark Interactive: $27

Total expenses: $251.41 ($196.40)

Yikes, this blogging thing is starting to get expensive. I’ll need to make more each month or spend less.

Net blog income: $264.53 ($746.24)

Thoughts about this month’s income report:

Income was down because I didn’t have any Betterhelp sales. This just tells me that I can’t rely on that income and I need to build up my traffic and my own product line.

Goals for August:

Let me actually make a list because there are a lot of things swirling around in my mind:

  • Improve my welcome sequence to sell my evergreen course
  • Open an Etsy shop to sell my workbooks
  • Redo my homepage as a static page
  • Finish Stupid Simple SEO
  • I purchased Lena Gott’s Traffic Transformation so I’d like to read through it
  • Possibly starting doing a pin blitz where I post four pins per day
  • Run a launch and a flash sale this month

I’m exhausted already. It’s August and my kids are supposedly going back to full-time school in September in the classroom (I am in Canada). I’m utterly torn between their physical and mental health.

Me working from home and teaching them was not good and so I’d like them to go back. But, what is going to happen when every school is back in session? Will they be able to visit their grandparents without me worrying? Only time will tell.
